We want to recognize Tori Davenport of Sioux City North on signing to play volleyball at Briar Cliff University.  Tori has been playing volleyball for 9 years now in both club and high school.  She also played softball and ran track in high school but her main focus now is volleyball, her favorite sport.

This year Tori played OH (outside hitter) who is responsible for hits, blocks and tips and is most frequently set up for kills.  She also has experience playing DSL (defensive specialist libero).  The DS is usually the one on the back line who serves the ball, digs and receives.  The libero is generally the best passer and wears a different color jersey.  Tori is, obviously, a very well rounded volleyball player and says her greatest strength is always being able to stay positive for her team.

We asked Tori about her favorite volleyball memory and she said “My favorite memory is from 8th grade when I was on my club team Dynamite.  It was the first year all of us had ever played together and the very first tournament we ever went to we made it to the championship game and I had an awesome coach, Julie Redus.”

Tori plans on studying Biology at Briar Cliff University so she can then pursue a Physician Assistant Degree.  We asked why she chose BCU and she said “I just fell in love on my campus visit and when you know it’s the right school you can feel it.”  She felt very welcomed on campus and everyone was friendly and she didn’t feel like “just a number.”  She also said that it means a lot to stay close to home and to be with her family.

Tori plans on staying active in the community while attending BCU and helping out with younger volleyball programs.  She has been helping multiple teams lately but mainly her younger sister’s 6th grade team that recently finished in the top 8 at state out of 54 teams.  When asked what it means to her to help out and have kids look up to her she said “It makes me happy knowing that I could be the reason someone would want to play volleyball.  It’s a great sport.  It is definitely something I look forward to.”

“Sioux City definitely has some good volleyball coming their way.”
