YANKTON, S.D. – The fourth-annual Riverboat Days Kayak Run, a six-mile paddle sports ‘fun run’ style event, is set for Aug. 20 in Yankton.
The event takes place on the Missouri National Recreational River between Chief White Crane State Park and Riverside Park, which is the headquarters site of Riverboat Days, Yankton’s signature arts and entertainment event each summer.
The route covers about six miles on the river and is a great, safe way to “get on the River during Riverboat Days.” Entries are $25 and cover insurance and t-shirts for all participants. You can visit the Riverboat Days website for a mail-in entry form.
Participants will start at the small cove near the state park and paddle downriver to the boat ramp beach area at Riverside Park. A shuttle bus will take paddlers from the finish back to the start prior to the event start, which is set for approximately 2:30 p.m.
First-place finishers in men’s and women’s classes will receive cash prizes. The route requires participants to paddle behind the two islands just upriver from the Discovery and Meridian bridges in Yankton.
You can learn more on the event’s Facebook page or just fill out an entry form and take part in the fun. It’s appropriate for all ages and skill-levels. Life jackets are required to take part in the event.
