Defense wins championships.  The Stuart Broncos aren’t thinking about winning championships until district play, but the importance of defense can’t be stressed enough.  The Broncos held the Twin Loup Wolves offense to 33 points after they had averaged 46 points through the first couple games.  The defensive effort was much needed for the Broncos after allowing 50+ points the first two games of the year.

Twin Loup started out in front leading 4-3, but that was the only lead they would boast this game.  The Broncos jumped on top 5-4 and didn’t really look back.  Freshman Isaac Steinhauser and Junior Franklin Fessler provided the defense the Broncos needed while Seniors Conner Paxton, Tate Schmaderer, and Micah Dexter provided the offense.  Paxton ( 16 points ), Schmaderer ( 20 points ), and Dexter ( 8 points ) provided 44 of the Broncos 46 points in Friday nights contest.  A big 10-0 run in the second quarter helped propel the lead to 25-14 at halftime for the Broncos.

The Broncos huddle before a game against Central Valley in Greeley.A rich football history for Twin Loup proved they had a fighter’s mentality and they wouldn’t go away easy.  A 15-4 advantage after halftime cut the deficit to 29 to 25 at the end of the third.  Big shots by #3 Michael Gibbens helped the Wolves come creeping back to within 4.  Big free throws in the 4th quarter stomped any chances for a comeback and the Broncos improved their record to 2-2 before a Saturday showdown against the Cody-Kilgore Cowboys.  The Broncos have a big chance to open up a winning streak in the next couple games and take advantage of a good pre-Christmas schedule.
