Stampede Blow Out Swarm

It was quite a weekend for the Sioux City Stampede and for the fans. The Stampede beat the Chillicothe Swarm 81-0 and set some impressive records at the same time. We’ll get into those later on in the article.

First off, starting quarterback Scott Manley had another impressive game completing 75% of his passes for two touchdowns and rushed for 155 yards and one touchdown. Receiving those touchdowns were Zac Kliment and Bret Van Muyden.

Larry Taylor had an impressive game with 104 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns but was outdone by teammate T.J. James who also scored 2 touchdowns but had 119 yards.

Kicker Doug Lehman Jr. was 6 for 7 with extra points.

When a quarterback throws a touchdown on nearly 20% of his throws you do expect a high scoring game. However, it was the Stampede defense that wreaked havoc on the other team and contributed to the lopsided victory.

It was a huge defensive effort with everyone getting in on the action. Marcel Moody had four tackles and one sack. He also added an interception. Joshua Collins also contributed to the interception count with two of his own and returned one for a touchdown. To top his teammates Warren Joiner deflected two passes, intercepted three passes and return two of them for touchdowns.

The team stats are pretty impressive but let’s get into the records broken.

The Stampede scored the most points and set the record for the largest win margin in the history of the Stampede organization with 81 points. They also set the record for the most points ever scored in a quarter with 48 coming in the 2nd quarter and most points scored in a half with 62.

The 62 points scored in the first half would be tied for 5th all time for most points scored in a game if that was the final score.

It was an incredible game….if you were in their cheering section.

The Stampede have three weeks off until they face their next opponent, the Fargo Invaders, June 10th at home in South Sioux City. Kick-off is at 4 pm.
