The SB-L basketball game Friday night versus Sioux City East was definitely worth the price of admission. A physical battle, it had fans on both side of the gym shouting until their throats hurt. The Warriors played their hearts out for the entire 32 minutes and were immensely proud to come up with the hard-fought win.

Though the game got off to a slow start, scoring-wise, the entire crowd was on the edge of their seats as EHS hit a 3-pointer toward the end of the period, and then SB-L’s Jacob Shultz took it back to drain a three, as well, right before the buzzer sounded.

The Black Raiders were up 9-11 going into the 2nd quarter, motivating the Sgt. Bluff boys to step it up. After two 3-pointers from Chris Kroll, the Warriors came back to top East by 6 points heading into halftime. Kroll scored a total of 13 points throughout the game.

Both teams hit the ground running in the second half with three-pointers. Keegan Savary sunk one for the Warriors, contributing to his 10 game points. Savary also lead the team in rebounds, with 9 for the night.

The 4th quarter is when things really heated up. East came out with a 5 consecutive points to take the lead. The score then continued to fluctuate within a few points one way or the other until SB-L rattled off three 3-pointers in a row to seal the deal. Shultz, as the leading scorer for the Warriors, was responsible for two of the three 3’s. He also had another 3-point play in the last minute of the game with a foul on a made shot plus the free throw. Shultz pulled through for Sgt. Bluff with an incredible 24 points and 6 rebounds.

The fight for orange and black domination was a thriller for sure, but the Warriors were happy to end up on top, 65-59. This win puts them at 4-4 for the season heading into 2015.
