Pearl Harbor – The Beginning of WWII

On December 7^th 75 years ago the island of Oahu was shaken by bombs dropped unexpectedly from Japanese fighter pilots.  The men and women of the island knew they were under attack and survival was a must. Countless lives were lost in the surprise attack and thoughts of war soon trickled throughout the state and country. The following day the rest of the world woke up to complete shock. The unimaginable happened and the devastation occurred on American soil.  The United States of America was about to join World War II.

It didn’t take long for the U.S to react to the attack.  President Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed congress and soon addressed the nation.  President Franklin said,

“Yesterday, December 7, 1941 – a date which will live in infamy – the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.”

His words sent a message, not just to the American people but to everyone throughout the world that the U.S. will not allow this attack to go unnoticed and the U.S. will avenge it.  The U.S. joined the allies and three days later Germany and Italy declared war against the United States. This was the beginning of World War II for the U.S.
