Niobrara/Verdigre dropped two games to the Stuart Broncos a season ago. One of them thwarted their chances of returning to the Niobrara Valley Conference Championship. The Cougars avenged their loss against the young Broncos. The Broncos will play a host of new faces this year as they have 6 upperclassmen to 6 underclassmen.
Hot shooting for the Cougars put them on a 7-0 run to start the game as they never gave the lead up. Unforced errors for the Broncos hurt them as they turned the ball over 27 times and only shot a mere 2 for 15 behind the arc. The Broncos pushed the Cougars in the second quarter as a great pass by Micah Dexter to Tate Schmaderer set up a 34 to 23 deficit at the half.
Niobrara/Verdigre is two classes higher than the Broncos and their depth proved this. Key Cougars came off the bench for big shots as they ultimately finished off the Broncos by a score of 69 to 43.
The Broncos learned a lot this game and got the first game jitters out of the way.
