The Le Mars Bulldogs needed a big game from there big player and Tyler Borchers answered the call.  He scored 35 points and had 19 rebounds in Le Mars victory over #1 seed Williamsburg in last night’s Iowa high school 3A semifinal game.  With those numbers you would think that Le Mars ran away with the game and at one point it seemed like they were going to with an 11 point lead in the first half. Williamsburg slowly made their way back within 5 points going into halftime 26-21.  That lead drifted away in the second half as Williamsburg started out on a 10-0 run to take the lead.  The game was back in forth from there and with 29 seconds left in regulation Borchers made a free throw to tie it up and take the game into overtime.

Overtime was very similar to the second half with both teams battling back and forth. Williamsburg took an early lead but with 20 seconds left Borchers was again fouled and went to the line making one free throw to tie it up again at 52. Williamsburg marched down the court but the Bulldogs defense forced a travel and were had a chance to win the game but missed the shot.

DOUBLE OVERTIME!!!

The second overtime went Le Mars way starting off with a 6-0 run.  With a player fouled out and others in foul trouble they needed the cushion to propel them to victory and that’s just what they did!!  With a little more fight in them they outscored Williamsburg 12-5 in double overtime to win 64-57 with Borchers adding the statement dunk with time running out.  Pete Meis finished the game with 12 points and Tyler Paulson added 10.  The Le Mars Bulldogs are heading back to the state championship game for the first time since 1946.  They will play 10th ranked Dubuque Wahlert tomorrow evening at 6pm.  Congrats Le Mars and good luck!!!
