The Northwest Iowa Bulldogs will face off against the Capital City Command this weekend for the Independent Amateur Football League title game. The Bulldogs are heading into the match with a perfect 8-0 record while the Command are 5-2.

The two have already squared off this season with the Bulldogs outmatching the Command in a 41-6 home win which marked the Bulldogs first win in the league and started their incredible campaign. The Bulldogs joined the IAFL this past season after playing in a different league last year and are seeking their first championship in team history.

The Bulldogs are coming off a forfeiture victory against the Quad City River Hawks. Their last match was nearly a month ago when they faced the North Iowa Knights at home and shut them out 42-0 but do not expect the Bulldogs to come out flat footed or rusty. They know exactly what they need to do and have been working towards this game all year.

Despite a rocky start to the season, the Command are on a 5 game win streak and have been working towards this game just as much. The defeat they suffered to the Bulldogs on opening day will not deter their confidence and will only fuel the fire to win erasing that defeat and bringing home the title.

The Command are heading into the match after traveling to Pomeroy, IA for a hard fought win against the North Iowa Knights two weeks ago 40-27. The Knights, who also competed in a different league last year, started the season 3-0 and beaten the Command but had since lost their winning ways.

The saying “it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish” would be a good motto this year for the Command. We’ll see if the Bulldogs agree come Saturday.

Both teams have faced strong opponents this year and have earned a shot at the title. Who will win will be up to them but it will surely be a great game.

Kickoff is at 6pm this Saturday at Des Moines Christian High School.
