A couple of big wins against Cody-Kilgore, Elkhorn Valley, and South Central, SD got the young Broncos out and rolling to a 5-2 record. Since the big wins, the Broncos have leveled out to a 9-7 record. Seniors Conner Paxton, Micah Dexter, and Tate Schmaderer have led the team in the statistical categories so far while receiving good contributions from Connor Jarman, Franklin Fessler, Isaac Steinhauser, and Colton Schroder. Paxton is a returning starter and leads the big guys down low with 11.4 points a game while hauling in 7 rebounds a game. Paxton has also chipped in 16 steals to go along with a 50% shooting percentage from the field. Senior Micah Dexter has served as the Broncos starting point guard for 2 years while also being a lead factor at the top of the Stuart 2-3 zone. Dexter has rolled lately to a tune of 10.6 points per game while dishing out 3.1 assists per game. Dexter also battled back from injury early in the year to be the team’s best shooter adding 9 three-pointers and 16 steals. Tate Schmaderer is another senior who leads the team with 16.2 points per game while grabbing 8.3 rebounds a game at the guard/forward position. He is a three year starter and has also chipped in 3.1 assists per game and 3.2 steals. The three seniors combine to score 38 of the team’s 45 points per game.

A big job the three seniors have is developing the young talent of the Broncos into future success. Junior Connor Jarman has been a quality first year starter for the Broncos by providing defensive pressure during all games this season. He also has a knack for knocking down some shots and has averaged 3 points per game this season. Franklin Fessler, a junior post, has helped provide good rebounding for the Broncos while also hustling around the floor. Fessler has put in 2 points per game for the Broncos this season. Talented freshman Isaac Steinhauser is experienced his first year starting for the Stuart Broncos. He is young, but holds a lot of strength and has averaged 5.5 points per game. Steinhauser is improving a lot as each game continues as he gets more and more experience. Finally, freshman guards Colton Schroeder, Ethan Sattler, and Wyatt Paxton have all added quality depth for the young Broncos.

A couple games against conference foes lie ahead for the Broncos as they will square off with the St. Mary’s Cardinals and a conference tournament game against the Santee Warriors on a neutral floor. Stuart defeated Santee 75-60 last Friday on the Warriors home court.
