An 0-2 start on the season didn’t concern the Stuart Broncos because they knew they could bounce back. They just needed a little momentum and some good defense to shut down the Spalding Academy Shamrocks in a defensive battle between two D2 schools.

A slow opening quarter saw the Shamrocks jump out to a 7-6 lead after a couple of miscues by the Broncos. The Broncos then lept out to a 19 to 15 lead after a big three pointer by junior guard Connor Jarman. A stifling defense kept the athletic Shamrock guards at bay as Stuart found themselves ahead 22 to 18 at the break.

Seniors #24 Micah Dexter and #23 Tate Schmaderer enjoy the pregame rituals before tip off against Spalding AcademyStuart was looking to avenge a loss to the Shamrocks, as Spalding Academy took down the Broncos by 1 in last year’s contest. Senior center Conner Paxton did everything right as he led the Broncos with 23 points and 11 rebounds and helped them jump start a run early in the 3rd quarter. The Broncos went on a 16-4 run in the 3rd quarter and never looked back.

It was a good victory for the Broncos as they were able to bounce back from two opening losses and get some momentum for the remaining pre-Christmas games. Another good sign was talented freshman guard Ethan Sattler was able to return to the lineup from an injury that occurred during football season.

Stuart’s next contest will come on the road against the Twin Loup Wolves on Friday, December 11.
