There has to be a reason behind why somebody would decide to have such a great passion for a sport. Why a person would dedicate their free time to that sport and towards achieving success. Why they would work hard every day, aiming for the best. When Luis plays, he leaves his heart out on the field. He doesn’t only have a passion for soccer but for wrestling and track also. So, I decided that I wanted to sit down and interview fellow athlete Luis Alvarez to take his take on his passion for sports.

Question: What was your interest of playing Soccer, Wrestling, and Track?

Answer: When I was younger and I would see my dad play soccer, and I remember, I wanted to be exactly like him. He had such devotion for soccer and I wanted to have devotion that strong like he did. He was the person that inspired me to be like him and make soccer one of my biggest passions. Wrestling was a sport I always wanted to try out. When I finally received the chance to participate in Wrestling, I wanted to continue playing it. Track was always in interest to me. I decided to join track and I found it addicting. I wanted to run all the time and never stop.

Question: What do you like most about it?

Answer: The way it makes me feel. When I play soccer, I forget the world and my problems. It’s like I’m where I’m meant to be: playing soccer. When I wrestle, I am in control of myself. If I’m mad, I can express my anger with wrestling. True, I feel bad for my opponent but it relieves my stress. When I run for track, I’m free. I put my headphones in and put my music on blast and I’m home. It helps me avoid thinking so much and makes me reach my goals. Music relaxes me and when I combine music and track, I’m happy.

Question: Are you currently playing for any teams or plan to play?

Answer: Not right now. Wrestling season started but I couldn’t join because of my job. I do plan to next year but right now I have to stick to my responsibilities. For soccer season, I will join. I don’t know how but I’ll make it work. Track I am still undecided. Mostly likely I will and most likely I won’t.

Question: What advice can you give to fellow athletes who are interested in playing soccer or any sport?

Answer: To always follow their dreams. There the ones that chose to make a difference in their lives. They shouldn’t let anyone influence on their decision because it’s their passion, not anyone else’s. Never give up on anything they want. They’ll be surprised of what they can accomplish.

I also decided to interview both of Luis’s parents to get there take on how they felt about their son being a fellow athlete and having such a great passion for sports.

María Segundo: I’m a proud mom. I tend to brag about both my kids because I have the greatest kids in the world. He makes me proud to be his mother. Just the fact that I see him accomplish his dream makes me feel as if I was accomplishing mine. He has such great dedication with aiming for the best. His passion for soccer is unexplainable. He’s a monster when he’s wrestling and he loves it. When he runs, he’s free. I am honored to have a son that does everything from his heart.

Jesus Alvarez: When I see my son playing everything I used to play, it makes me feel young again. I’m very proud because he’s exactly like his dad since he was a baby. I have a background on soccer and I once dreamed about accomplishing my soccer dreams. I was him when I was his age but I couldn’t continue with my dream of playing soccer because I had to become a dad. I don’t regret that one bit because just knowing that my son will accomplish everything I couldn’t accomplish, makes me proud he will.

It’s truly remarkable how such a big passion can become a life changer. Passions never die and this passion, we can clearly see that the time and energy transmitted in playing sports is incredible. Fighting to achieve his dream of going into the Leagues and becoming someone well known. I am proud to be his sister and to have discovered more interesting hobbies that make him who he is. Simply put, it’s not just about learning how to play the sport, but by how strong the outcome can result.
