47 Meters Down is an action thriller based in Mexico when two sister travel down for vacation. On their vacation they decided to have a little adventure and do a cage dive with sharks. Everything seems to go fine until the cable holding their cage snaps and sends them 47 meters below the surface of water…surrounded by enormous, hungry sharks.

To add to the horrible situation they have limited air supply. An hour for each and must be resourceful if they want to survive. Knowing that they cannot swim to the surface to quickly without risking decompression sickness and death. Also, leaving the cage can make them become a great white sharks dinner.

I won’t go into any more detail about the movie but it does go through a lot of nightmare for a cage diver that simply don’t pan out the way you would think, or hope if you were in the same situation. It does keep you on the edge of your seat and does play out every worst case scenario imaginable.

If you grew up watching Jaws, like my parents, you may not enjoy this movie. They said it was a boring knock off but I thought it was exhilarating and definitely want to watch it again. I thought the acting was spot on. The scenes seemed real and even though the plot was pretty basic it was thought out and well directed.

It does amaze me that movies like this or Discovering Channels Shark Week comes out during the summer but the horrible timing is actually perfect timing. It plays into the fear of the ocean and all of its creatures. I give this movie an 8 out of 10 and I would recommend seeing it.
